自贡，中国西南省份四川的一座内陆城市，因房地产业的彻底崛起而命运陡转。

罗亮，一个替房地产老板开车和跑腿的人，快三十岁了，骑着破摩托，住着老房子，满足于做别人的附庸，被知识分子家庭出身的老婆耻笑，虽然他也有个梦想——衣锦还乡。

Synopsis：

Due to the sharp rise in real estate prices, drastic changes have occurred in Zigong, an inland city in Sichuan Province in Southwest China.

Luo Liang, almost thirty, is a chauffeur who runs errands for a real estate boss. He rides a broken motorcycle and lives in a shabby house. Although he is sneered at by a wife who came from a family of intellectuals, he is content with being somebody’s vassal. Still, he dreams of returning home with fame and money.

在这样一个价值判断之下，一幕幕时代与众人的悲剧正不断地上演。人与猫一样，是附属的、卑微的、被摆弄的，工具而已，无论老板、“狗腿子”、农民，还是钉子户。。。 

猫，也很贴合当前的时代精神，它一种非常“和谐”的动物。因为我们的政府一直在说：中国人正在建造一个“和谐社会”。 

我一边在剪辑一边在看、在想——生活真的就如我所描绘的这样吗？是不是有点失度？有点超现实？但很遗憾，生活基本上就是我所描绘的这样，甚至也许我还观察、思考、表达得不够敏锐、彻底和坦率！电影里很多场景与对话是我亲身经历或者亲耳听闻的，拍出来用以纪念我在四川地区这七年以来的生活。 

The title is originally part of a quote from Deng Xiaoping: "As long as the cat can catch a mouse, it is a good cat no matter whether it is a black cat or a white cat." 

In a society dominated by these values, tragedies will be continuous. The value of a human being is the same as that of the cat; a humble accessory or tool to be used as it may, whether that be as a boss, a henchman, a peasant or some other menial function. 

The cat, a joyful and harmonious animal, also fits well with the spirits of the times. Our government has always said that the Chinese people are building a harmonious society. 

When I was editing the film, I could not help thinking, "Is life really the way I describe? Is the film exaggerated or surreal?" Unfortunately, life is just what I described in the film. It is even possible that I have not observed, reflected or expressed myself thoroughly or genuinely enough. Many of the scenes and conversations in the film were experienced or overheard by me when I lived in Zigong. I took notes and made those notes into this film in memory of the seven years I spent in this town.

应亮 

应亮首先是一位以四川自贡为基地的电影作者。他出生于上海，在北京和重庆求学后，留在四川生活和拍摄。作为剧情片导演，他以几乎无成本的方式工作，主张“去工业化”和彻底独立，自1999年拍摄第一部短片至今，共完成三部长片和十几部短片，获得十几个国际奖项。同时，他也是一名年轻的电影教员和策展人：自2008年起，担任重庆民间映画交流展的节目总策划；同年，在布里斯班国际电影节担任奈派克亚洲影评人奖评委；自2009年起，在北京的栗宪庭电影学校担任主讲教师；2010年，担任栗宪庭电影基金的教学总监，并担任中国纪录片交流周选片人，也为重庆民间映画交流展在中国各地以及伦敦、加的斯、圣地亚哥等地策划了近十个巡回展。目前，他穿梭于四川自贡、重庆、北京等城市，进行教学和策展活动，履行着他所认为的一名独立电影人该履行的义务；同时他也在世界各地穿梭，放映自己的片子，完成着一名导演对自己的片子该完成的任务。 

  

Ying Liang is first and foremost a filmmaker. Born in Shanghai, Ying Liang studied in Beijing and Chongqing before choosing the city of Zigong in the Sichuan Province as his base. Ying Liang sees himself a director of dramatic films who makes ultra-low-budget features and advocates a "de-industrialized" and totally independent approach to filmmaking. Since his first film, a short, in 1999, Ying Liang has made three feature-length films and more than a dozen shorts and received an equal number of prizes at international film festivals. Ying Liang is also a film teacher and curator. In 2008, he became the program director of the Chongqing Independent Film & Video Festival and was a jury member of the NETPAC Award at Brisbane International Film Festival. In 2009, he became a principle lecturer for the Li Xianting Film School in Beijing. In 2010, he was made the Director of Education for the Li Xianting Film Fund and curator for the China Documentary Film Festival in Beijing. In the same year, he organized a ten-city screening tour of selections from the Chongqing Independent Film & Video Festival, which took place in several Chinese cities as well as in London, Cadiz, Santiago ect. Nowadays Ying Liang shuttles between Zigong, Chongqing, Beijing and other cities teaching and curating to fulfill what he sees as the obligations of an independent filmmaker. He also shuttles around the world showing his films to fulfill a director's obligations to his work.
